Some Urologists still prefer Viagra over Cialis

What is a Urologist?

A urologist is a physician who has specialized knowledge and skill regarding problems of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. Because of the variety of clinical problems encountered, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required of the urologist. Urology is classified as a surgical sub-specialty. A urologist with advanced qualifications in surgery may be a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

ED is a Medical Issue

While ED is more common in older men, it is not a normal part of the aging process and should be viewed as a medical problem that requires a medical solution. Just as you would not leave high blood pressure untreated as you age, ED and its effects on the body should not be ignored. Physicians have treated a wide range of patients over the past 10 years, with one of the oldest patient to date being 98 years old.

Treating ED

Drugs for treating ED can be taken orally, injected directly into the penis, or inserted into the urethra at the tip of the penis. In March 1998, the Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra, the first pill to treat ED. Taken an hour before sexual activity, Viagra works by enhancing the effects of nitric oxide, a chemical that relaxes smooth muscles in the penis during sexual stimulation and allows increased blood flow.

While Viagra improves the response to sexual stimulation, it does not trigger an automatic erection as injections do. The recommended dose is 50 mg, and the physician may adjust this dose to 100 mg or 25 mg, depending on the patient. The drug should not be used more than once a day. Men who take nitrate-based drugs such as nitroglycerin for heart problems should not use Viagra because the combination can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure.

Users Testimony

According to Urologist Mike Hampton, he has had patients that stopped using Cialis due to it’s side effects. They have stated that Viagra also works better, and at more appropriate times than Cialis. Headaches and flushing are some side effects, that were reported and to mild according to his patients.
